Meritus Homes
Deerfield-based Meritus Homes has taken over the Remington Glen town house development in St. Charles. The former Remington Homes property fell into foreclosure in 2010.
Meritus will build town houses priced from the upper $100,000s on the 33 remaining sites of the original 103-unit plan.
Originally priced from $291,900 to $326,900, the base prices of the luxury units were cut in 2008 by as much as $37,000. In a sales promotion, Remington Homes also had offered a no down payment option.
The new town homes will measure 1,645 to 2,020 square feet with two to three bedrooms, 21/2 baths and attached two-car garages. Some plans will have lofts or first-floor master bedrooms.
Located on the west side of the city on Peck Road, the development is near the Great Western Trail and LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve.
The sales office is scheduled to open in late August.
For more information, call 847-282-3567 or visit meritushomebuilders.com for an appointment.
Morningside Group
Chicago-based Morningside Group recently broke ground on a midrise 306-unit apartment building in downtown Wheaton that is scheduled for completion by next summer.
Located at 121 N. Cross St., the building will have five levels of apartments over a two-level parking garage. Floor plans will include studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Rental rates have not been determined.
Units will feature 9-foot ceilings, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, ceramic tile in bathrooms, wooden floors, balconies and in-unit washers and dryers.
A second-level courtyard will include a swimming pool, grills, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, dog run and boccie ball court. Indoor amenities will include a community room, business center, conference room, theater room and fitness center.
The parking levels will include bicycle parking, car- and dog-washing stations and storage lockers.
Residents will have a four-block walk to a Metra train station.
Until the leasing office opens in 2013, prospective renters can email info@wheaton121.com.
Smith Crossing
Smith Crossing, a continuing-care retirement facility in Orland Park, will complete its wings for additional independent-living residences in September.
Eleven of the 76 new apartments remain available. The entrance fee is $188,400, 90 percent of which is refundable to residents who move or is payable to their estate upon death.
The senior campus includes four levels of care — independent living, assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing care.
Located at 10501 Emilie Lane, Smith Crossing has 24-hour security, meal and housecleaning services and in-house physical therapy. The development also offers classes and outings.
Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and by appointment.
